Danielsson F3W 4seven Large Arbor Fly Reel

November 18, 2009

I just returned from my annual fall steelhead trip to the famous Pere Marquette river in Michigan.

On my drive back, I kept thinking of how many times that chrome 6lb buck steelhead jumped. It must have jumped 8-9 times all over that deep pool.
When I quickly reeled all the loose line onto my new Danielsson F3W 4seven, the steelie had no chance... I yelled to my guide, "it's on!" - meaning the
line and fish are now onto the reel and my own custom 10' 7wt switch fly rod. From there on, the smooth drag and strong current wore down the steelie
into my guide's waiting net.

At just 5.2 ounces, the large arbor F3W 4seven balanced nicely with my switch rod and made a pleasurable day roll casting drennan style bobbers
attached to lightly weighted two-fly rigs. The hand retrieve on these sophisticated fly reels can be switched by any DIY with the included hex wrench. The
3-tiered drag system is a really innovative set of spindle-configured "high-load" ball bearings that can be reconfigured by the same DIY.

Mr. Tomas Danielsson engineers his 100% sealed drag fly reels in Sweden. The newest models are the Featherweight (F3W), Lightweight (L5W),
Heavy Duty (H5D), and Control series. They all have unique drag and performance features worth looking at over again and again until you have
decided on which model(s) to use on your next fishing adventure. Tomas personally answers e-mails about his reels.

My next reel would either be a F3W 7ten or a L5W
8twelve to handle the largest steelhead, salmon, permit, and light tarpon up to 80lbs with either a one
or two-handed rod.

I would be happy to help answer questions on this quality fly reel:
